MAINTAIN GOOD ORAL HYGIENE DURING PREGNANCY
Pregnancy is a special time to take extra good care of your oral health. During pregnancy, a woman should be especially mindful of her oral hygiene practices, eating habits and professional dental care needs.
These measures form the foundation for good oral health. Not only do they help prevent oral problems during pregnancy, but they can help determine the general and dental health of your unborn child.
BRUSH
Brush thoroughly with an ADA accepted flouride toothpaste twice a day.
FLOSS
Floss or clean between your teeth with interdental cleaners at least once each day.
PRODUCTS
When choosing oral hygiene products, look for the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance. The ADA Seal of Acceptance means that the product is safe for it’s intended use. The ADA reviews all advertising claims for any product bearing the Seal. Only those claims that can be supported by appropriate clinical and/or laboratory studies and scientific data are allowed.
NUTRITION
Eat a balanced diet. Snack in moderation and choose foods that are healthy for you and your baby. A recommended daily diet includes:
3 servings of dairy such as milk, yogurt, or cheese.
2 to 3 servings of meat, poultry or fish.
6 or more servings of breads, cereals or other grain products.
3 or more servings of vegetables.
2 or more servings of fruits.
X-Rays
We may need to take X-rays during your regular visit. Please keep in mind that an X-ray produces very little radiation and that dental X-rays focus on a small area of the face. We will ask you to wear a protective apron during the X-ray.
If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to call our office!
