Volga Elementary Students Tour Dental Office
Volga Elementary students from Mrs. Frey’s first grade class and Mrs. Street’s second grade class toured Wilson Martino Dental in Buckhannon on May 25th. During the tour students watched a video about a dental office visit, learned how to fill a cavity, observed sealant procedures and studied the proper way to brush and floss their teeth.
“We love having the kids come in and study dentistry,” said Dr. Adam Fowler. “The tours and school programs provide a fun and educational environment for learning about good dental hygiene. Our community members do so much to support us and providing the free programs is just one way we can say thank you. Plus, the kids have a great time.”
The staff of Wilson Martino Dental also “tooth printed” each child as part of the program. A tooth print utilizes a simple dental identification kit that allows the child’s dental imprint and DNA to be captured. The imprint is taken by heating a wafer until soft and then asking the child to bite down. After the wafer cools, parents have a valuable identification tool. Every individual has a unique tooth print (much like a fingerprint) and the kit, which if left unopened can be effective in assisting police during emergency situations. Wilson Martino Dental provides the free child TOOTHPRINTS at several community programs throughout the year.
The dental programs are free to the community and can be tailored for any age group, including: daycare facilities, schools, social groups, civic clubs, senior centers and much more. The dental office also has a mascot “Dudley the Dinosaur” who is available for special appearances. To schedule a free program, please call Wendy Boyce with Wilson Martino Dental Associates at 304-624-5250.
